St Mawes Sailing Club are looking for a Chief Instructor, to head up their sailing activity and developing the sailing club for the future.
Located on the stunning Roseland Peninsula, St Mawes has a vibrant sailing community that benefits from perfect access to the Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay.
- The Club has just celebrated its first 100 years
- There are 1600 members who sail a wide variety of boats
- The Club is affiliated to the RYA
- The Club has just concluded a survey of its members together with a strategic review.
- The review revealed a desire to develop and invest in junior sailing and to explore ways of attracting more people to sailing in St Mawes, potentially through the provision of pay and sail and more adult training.
- We are therefore looking for a candidate capable of playing a leading role in developing the current organization.
The Role
- The position, primarily, is that of Chief Instructor but subject to negotiation may include the roles of Principal and/or Club Bosun.
- An exciting opportunity to be the CI of a club with an already vibrant junior sail training organisation which is seeking to develop and enhance what it offers to members.
- The post is offered at the salary range of £18 – £26K depending on the roles agreed and the hours to be worked.
- The hours worked will need to be flexible depending on the time of year
- Four weeks annual (paid) leave plus statutory bank holidays are offered pro rata depending on whether the role agreed is full or part time.
- The successful applicant will lead on all sail training at the club and will report to the Junior Sailing Organiser.
- Ideally, we seek to appoint someone able to offer adult and child dinghy courses, and power boat level 2 and RYA safety boat courses.

Essential
- RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor
- First aid provider
Desirable
- Other sailing qualifications (race coach, keelboat etc)
Previous experience
- Previous experience as a lead senior instructor or chief instructor
Skills and personal characteristics required
- Ability to make learning fun for young sailors
- Ability to encourage and inspire volunteers
- Ability to self-manage
- Good communication skills
- Approachability
